On the evening of October 16th, the second special lecture of the Parent School for the Class of 2025 in the Western District of our school's Junior High Department was successfully held. More than 500 parents participated in the event either by attending in person or through live streaming on WeChat, jointly listening to the keynote speech titled 'How to Help Children Develop Good Habits' delivered by Assistant Principal Chen Peifeng. The lecture focused on the key issues during the crucial period of freshmen's adaptation to junior high school life, systematically providing guidance on strategies for habit formation.
First and foremost, at the beginning of the lecture, Assistant Principal Chen Peifeng, drawing on the actual performance of seventh-grade students, pointed out the pain points for new students in adapting to the new environment as follows: During the junior high school stage, the number of subjects increases and the difficulty level rises. Therefore, some students experience disordered schedules, impulsive study habits, and fluctuating grades. Additionally, the core issue lies in the insufficient transition of habits. Accordingly, he emphasized that middle school is the golden period for developing good habits. Also, good habits are both the foundation for autonomous learning and the underlying ability for future development. Meanwhile, this profound insight set the core tone of the lecture, which was based on 'habit', which prompted parents to reflect deeply.
Subsequently, Assistant Principal Chen Peifeng focused on the actual needs of the seventh-grade freshmen and systematically summarized ten core habit-building strategies, providing parents with clear and actionable guidance, such as regular sleep schedules (going to bed before 22:00 and getting up early but not too early), independent homework completion (following the review → time limit → checking process). These habits that cover the key scenarios of learning and life are precisely the core leverage for children to achieve the transformation from 'heteronomy' to 'autonomy'.
Last but not the least, at the end of the lecture, Assistant Principal Chen Peifeng emphasized the significance of collaboration between home and school in that the formation of good habits requires the joint efforts of both home and school. Thus, he called on parents to set an example by starting with small daily tasks such as creating a schedule and assigning household chores. In the meantime, parents should be less demanding and more attentive. Through the little things in daily life, they can guide and assist their children to actively internalize the habits through positive feedback.
In summary, the parents present were listening attentively and the interaction was very lively. For instance, parents all expressed that the core habit points elaborated in Assistant Principal Chen PeifengChen's lecture were specific and practical, effectively resolving their confusion about 'not knowing how to guide'. More noticeably, our school takes the parent school as an important platform. Through the construction of a series of specialized courses, we continuously deepen family education guidance, work hand in hand with parents to build a 'home-school collaboration' synergy, implement the educational philosophy of 'cultivating hope for every family and creating the future for every child', thus laying a solid foundation of habits for children and safeguard their growth in adolescence.
